Treatment Photography

1. Type of production and brief details on subject/concept:
The pictures I am going to be taking are In Motion. The ideas I have for this project is to take a photo of my dog running. This has to be done effectively as I may not catch the photo at the correct time. Another idea i have is taking a picture of a bird flying across the sky. I also have thought of taking a photo of someone dancing or playing a sport.

2. Facilities: What facilities do you need for this project list all including software and hardware for the whole project:
I will need a camera and maybe a tripod for the project.

3. Finance: If you produced this project outside of college you need to show how much it would cost to hire the equipment that you intend to use:

Hiring a Canon Camera would cost £30 for 3 days
Hiring a tripod would cost £25 for 3 day hire

4. Contributors: Who do you need to help you with this project? This includes talent and crew.
For the In-Motion pictures of people either dancing or doing something else i am going to use friends and family. I am going to ask a friend to be my assistant and help me with taking the pictures.

5. Codes of practice and regulation:  What regulations do you need to be aware of. Think about college policy as well as regulatory bodies that you looked at in assignment 2, worksheet 1.6 regulation and safety notes:
Royalty free refers to a copyright license where the user has the one-time right to use the photo without restrictions.

Rights managed refers to a copyright license. If this is purchased by a user allows the one time use of the photo as specified by the license.
Copyright is where you take somebody elses work and use it pretending that it is original.
Moral rights is where you are allowed to publish work anonomously and the right to have the integrity of the work.
Rights and licensing is about where a photographer needs to decide whether the terms and conditions are acceptable to them.
Bill of rights is a response to photographers which have the intention of claiming perpetual and irrevocable usage rights, even in some cases copyrights and waiving of moral rights.

6. Presentation: How will you present the pictures? Will you include a soundtrack, think about copy write issues etc.

I am going to present my pictures in a slideshow on the computer. I may use music that suits the kind of pictures that have been taken.

New Post

379111290 9c3a80cded in 45 Beautiful Motion Blur PhotosI have chosen to take my photographs In-Motion as I feel that I can easily take pictures for this as there is movement everywhere we as people go.

The photos show some brilliant ways of taking photos in-motion. As you can see they are not too blurry they are taken right on time. If they were too blurry then the photo could be ruined and it wouldnt as good as it should, so its always good to take it at just the right moment that you want it.

My ideas for my pictures are going to be things that are quite unexpected. Something like a person walking and running or even other things. There is so many things to take pictures of as people are in motion most of the time. I want to take a picture that really makes the object in the picture stand out.

Art Photography

Application

When I think about art photography, automatically what comes to my mind is creativity. I feel that photos that are taken for these purposes express the artists feelings and we as onlookers should understand their perpesctive. I like the fact that all art photos are different and occassionally crazy. Usually art photographers use an idea they have had for a while and just decided to take a photo of it. An art photographer I noticed alot was Alejandro Chaskielberg. His work was all unique. I especially like the colours in the photos as they stand out and they look like watercolour aswell. Of course when you look at art photography most of the photos use computer editing to make them look better than the original photo.

Context

I feel art photography is mainly displayed in art galleries. To make the photo stand out, the photos are laid out in the gallery seperated from eachother so you can look deep into the photo that you want to. Also i feel they are put on a white background so that the photo stands out more and you can focus on the photos more. This is mainly for meaningful art photos that have been taken as the photos are bigger and will have a bigger impact on onlookers. I feel that when the photo is bigger and when nothing is surrounding the photo, thats when you can really feel the photgraphers perception of what they want you to look at. I actually prefer it when a photo is not framed and thats what I saw. The photos were not framed and I feel this is to make the photo look simple and this is what stands out to the audience.

Techniques

The techniques art photographers use are mostly using a studio or finding scenery throughout the world and using their idea of taking the photo there. I feel that if art photography is taken in a studio it is not as creative as we as an audience dont feel that the photo is real. However if a photo is taken on location we find this alot more interesting. This is because when you are taking photos outside anything can happen. Something unexpected can happen and this is what appeals to an audience. We want something that seems real. The pictures can either be black or white to show sophistication or they can be colourful so that it stands out to the audience. What I saw of the photos was that they were printed on card and put on the wall. I feel this is a good thing as if you used paper the photo could rip easily whereas card is less likely. Also when sticking paper on a wall, the paper can go flimsy wheareas card stays straight.

Fashion Photography

Application

Cheryl Cole Vogue UK CoverFashion photography is a genre of photography which displays such things as clothing, jewellery or make-up. Fashion photographers tend to use slim women and men to attract the audience and buy what is being offered. The person being photographed is usually airbrushed and made to look so attractive that they are covered in loads of make-up. Generally not many fashion photos are natural. Natural photos are usually taken in certain scenery's, whereas I feel unnatural photos are taken in a studio due to the fact that nothing can interrupt the photo. This is different to a natural photoshoot as things can interrupt like the wind, other people etc. Studio photos try to make the photo natural by using wind machines. As you can see in the photo below of Cheryl Cole she has been airbrushed. She does not need to be though as she is naturally beautiful. I feel the problem with fashion photography is that all of the photographers only want the skinniest of girls and cake them in make-up to make them look better than they are but thats what fashion photography shouldnt be about. I feel fashion photographers should show natural girls who have nice curvy figures and have confidence. There are many fashion photgraphers but one very well known one is Adolph de Meyer who became the first fashion photographer to shoot for American magazine Vogue from the years 1913-1921. He also shot for Vanity Fair in the same years.

Context

Fashion photography is showed in many different forms. Mostly they are shown in magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and Cosmopolitan. All of the photos are different such as different clothes, hairstyles and jewellery. When promoting something in the fashion industry they are usually shown in magazines, billboards and television adverts. These promoting photos are mostly airbrushed. For example look at the picture of Coleen Rooney. The picture on the left shows her in person promoting her perfume and looking natural, but the photo on the right says otherwise. The photo on the right shows not one hair out of place, she has become slimmer and she looks more pale than the photo on the left. This shows that for promoting items they airbrush the photos to make the product and the person stand out more. Other places where fashion photography is shown is at different fashion runway shows. Models walk down the runway whilst wearing the latest clothes and being photographed by famous photographers.

Techniques

There are many different techniques they use for fashion photography. Lighting is used in fashion photography i feel to make the person or main item stand out. For example they could use a spotlight or different coloured lights. Another technique is airbrushing. Airbrushing is used to make the person in the photo look beautiful and stand out. For example if the person was curvy, they would make them much slimmer with airbrushing. Also airbrushing makes your skin look perfect even if someone had alot of spots. They also use alot of make-up on models and dress them in outrageous clothes. This is to make the person stand out. Fashion photographers also like using black and white photos. Using a black and white photo and using a model that has been airbrushed and is wearing some make-up and wearing vibrant clothes makes them stand out more because the person looks colourful and is on a black and white background. Another technique fashion photographers use is scenery. This is to make the photo look sophisticated. Some just use a studio and use a background but others actually go all over the world to find places that would be good to take fashion photos. By doing this it makes the photo stand out to audiences because it only focuses on the model but by having a nice background it makes the photo attractive.

Portraiture

Application

Portraiture is all about the power of the portrait. Either a person, scenery, creature or other things can be used in a portrait picture and capturing a portrait picture is done in a single frame. Portraits can be edited. For example, a photographer will take a picture of someone and do it to what they want but the photgrapher can edit it to the way that they want the picture. An example of a picture like this is a photo of a pope by Diego Valazquez, which was re-created by Francis Bacon. The picture is originally just a natural photo turned much more sinister and darker.

Context

Portraits are found in yearbooks, art gallery's, books and museums. Also on stamps and money there are portraits of the queen. Also when you take your picture for identity of yourself, it is known as a portrait photo of yourself. They are also seen in many museums due to the popularity of portrait photos.

Techniques

When doing portraiture photos there are many techniques the photographer uses. One technique is to have the person standing up straight or sitting down and just basically being very posed. This can either show the whole body or just a certain part of the body, like a head. There is usually only one person in a portrait photo as when people say portrait it automatically makes me think that is only for one person. For example when you have passport photos taken, you are alone and that is called a portrait photo. They also tend to make the photo's black and white to make them look unique and sophisticated. Sometimes in portrait photos they are unsuspecting. For example it will be a photo of a few people and they dont know it is being taken. Also when they use lighting in portrait photos this makes the person in the photo feel as if they are powerful as the light is put on them to make them stand out.

Photo Journalism

Application
The truth is not neccesarily correct when it comes down to photo journalism. The photographer will take their pictures a couple of seconds before something happens but people thought a photo would never lie. I personally feel that it is about capturing an unexpected moment which makes people looking at the picture astounded.

The difference between photo journalism and pictures in a magazine these days is the fact that these days most of the pictures are fake. For example, a celebrity in a magazine will be airbrushed to make their body look smaller. People believe that it is a gift to be able to catch something so unexpected and memorable. The moment when that picture occurs is when you have captured that decisive moment.

In those days, some photographers use to use cameras called Leica's. These cameras were extremely useful as they were small enough to fit in your pocket and then when your moment comes you can quickly grab your camera and take the photo. The picture below shows what one of the Leica cameras looked like.

leica_m8_camera
Context

In photo journalism, the photos are normally displayed in black and white unlike today since we have colour. I feel this is to make the photo look more elegant and sophisticated. We look at the images quite astounded by them as it is usually an unexpected moment. Whats good about it is the photo is generally better than most photos taken today. It looks like the photographer has put alot of effort into making the scene that is shot look great but really it is effortless. The photographer will prey on a certain area that they would like to take a photo and hope that something may happen. I feel that these photos could also be displayed in places like museums or maybe some old news articles.

Techniques

The photo has been taken at that exact moment but i dont feel that the original photograph is black and white, so i feel they edited that. Its like what I said earlier, the black and white is to show sophistication. Nowadays you can edit and put items or anything in a photo.
